When driving rhymes with fun, we’re thinking of the Subaru WRX STI. This 2020 sporty compact, inspired from rally cars, offers both rare performance and driving balance. In fact, very few other cars can claim to offer the same temperament in such a dynamic sport sedan.
The 2020 Volkswagen Golf R doesn’t appear yet on the German manufacturer’s catalogue. It will still take a year, if not two, to be able to obtain the new version. Performance driving enthusiasts, in Montreal or Laval, must therefore compare the 2019 version with the new Subaru WRX STI. And the latter offers a lot!
What characterizes the WRX STI, on top of its dynamic drive and Subaru performances, is also its appearance. Once joined at the hip with the Subaru Impreza, it now stands on its own and displays its muscles with an aggressive hood and a distinct hood scoop, as well as a spectacular rear spoiler offered as an option.
More sober, the VW Golf R takes back the lines of the traditional Golf, adding a few aerodynamic elements here and there. One however needs a well-experienced eye to recognize it without hesitation at first glance.
Who says sportive sedan says powerful engine. While the Golf R is propelled by a 4-cylinder turbo engine of 292 horsepower, paired to the standard all-wheel drive, the Subaru WRX STI relies on a turbocharged, 2.0-litre 4-cylinder BOXER engine developing 310 horsepower, paired with a reinforced transmission to improve gear shifts.
It is outfitted with an even more spectacular all-wheel drive, as well as an electronic Driver Controlled Centre Differential, which delivers a faster response and enhanced cornering capabilities.
As for its interior, the Subaru WRX STI offers sport seats providing flawless lateral support. The sedan also includes a multimedia system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Performance does not necessarily go without a certain comfort. People who live either Downtown or in the West Island will appreciate the suspensions, capable of absorbing the hazards of the road.
So whether it is for a quiet ride in Laval or Montreal, or for a more dynamic session, test driving the 2020 Subaru WRX STI is a must at Subaru Montréal.
