The 2020 Subaru WRX is a rally beast. Less extreme than its STI sibling, the WRX still proposes a sporty sedan style and a performance drive worthy of Subaru. So it’s impossible not to compare it to one of the best-selling cars in the segment, the Honda Civic Si.
While the 2020 Subaru WRX previously shared its name with the Subaru Impreza, it is now part of an independent family with the STI. This allows it to display its personality even more, and to enjoy its own unique developments, while proposing a decidedly more muscular profile.
The Honda Civic Si, for its part, is directly inspired from the 10th generation of the small Honda sedan, that we see riding around the streets of Laval or Montreal. It continues with the same design profile and general lines, but offers a little more aerodynamism and, above all, a sportier style.
The best qualities of the Subaru WRX are its powertrain and its standard Symmetrical Full-Time All-Wheel Drive system. Under the hood is housed the family’s horizontally-opposed BOXER, a four-cylinder engine that develops some 268 horsepower. Located lower in the chassis structure, this flat engine allows, in particular, for better handling by providing a better balance of weight.
The Honda Civic Si is slightly less powerful, its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine only producing 205 horsepower. It also only pulls the front wheels, for a more delicate drive in dynamic mode.
The Honda sedan opts for sporty brakes, able to ensure efficient stops in the streets of Laval or Downtown Montreal. At Subaru, the sporty sedan also features a dynamic brake system, as well as a reinforced transmission to enable completely confident performances, both when braking and accelerating.
Somewhat changed, the Subaru WRX interior adds a well-laid out and comfortable cockpit, the EyeSight safety system as well as the StarLink Connected Services. The interior of the Honda Civic Si remains literally unchanged.
Whether it is for a ride in the West Island or in Laval, or for a more dynamic drive on the region’s roads, a test drive of the sporty Subaru sedan is a must, at your Subaru Montréal dealer.
