How is the Subaru all-wheel drive – or if you prefer, the full-time symmetrical AWD – superior to what the competition has to offer? Come try out one of our vehicles today at Subaru Montréal near the West Island, Laval and the North Shore and see why our all-wheel drive systems have been the envy of others in the industry for many years!
Did you know that there is not one, but several types of Subaru AWD? Here is an overview of each:
1.AWD with center differential and viscous LSD
With the exception of the WRX STI, Subaru vehicles equipped with a manual transmission come with this type of traction. With maximum grip at all times, this system has a locking center differential with viscous coupling device, which provides a 50:50 front/rear default torque distribution. That means optimal torque distribution, which in turn increases the vehicle’s performance.
2.Active Torque Split AWD
All Subaru models, except the WRX which has a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), use this system with multiple disk clutch. Many sensors allow it to instantly and automatically modulate the torque distribution based on road and weather conditions. The torque distribution is as follows: 60% to the front and 40% to the rear.
3.Variable Torque Distribution AWD
Offered exclusively in the Subaru WRX, this type of AWD is combined with the Lineartronic Sport CVT transmission. Efficiency and sporty performance awaits! The center differential shares the torque as follows: 45/55 in normal conditions and up to 50/50 if weather conditions deteriorate.
4.Driver-controlled center differential AWD (DCCD)
The Subaru WRX STI benefits from a high performance AWD which lets the driver control the central differential lock. A manual and 3 automatic modes, allowing for the sharing of torque from 41/59 to 50/50 between front and rear, are available to the driver. You will also enjoy a configuration with 3 differentials, unmatched in the industry.
